CyberBullying

Cyber bullying, is distinguished by the use of information and communication technology as the means through which to embarrass, threaten, sexually harass, or socially exclude.  Examples include posting embarrassing images or comments about somebody or impersonating someone to cause harm. 

 

 

There are many forms of cyber bullying:

 • Sending mean messages or threats to a person’s cell phone, email, or social media account

 • Spreading rumors online through social media

 • Stealing someone’s account information to send damaging messages online 

 • Taking unflattering pictures and spreading them through social media or cell phones

 Digital Epidemic 

Every day in the U.S 160,000 students stay home from school for fear of threats made online or in person.

 

 

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among children adolescents today.

 

Peer victimization (bullying/cyberbullying) was found to be related to both suicidal ideation/thoughts and suicide attempts among children and adolescents.

 

Cyberbullying was more strongly related to suicidal ideation compared with traditional bullying.

Bullying

 What is Bullying?: Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance.
